By Harold Santana Ga nza CRI Spanish Beichuan was the "epicenter of the pain."Before the earthquake of 12 May 2008, the town, located 160 kilometers from Chengdu, was an idyllic valley with high mountains and an abundance of nature. The quake destroyed almost completely the region: the houses collapsed as if made of paper, two peaks were merged and buried all life and the buildings in their path. Have the witnesses, that the noise was infernal. The two main buildings of the Beichuan Middle School collapsed Basic. More than 1 000 students and about 100 teachers (half of the faculty) lost their lives. Today, the educational center is located at the headquarters of the Training Institute of the Society of Television Hong Chang. This is the temporary headquarters until the end of the school building, funded by the Overseas Chinese Committee. The facilities are equipped with specialized classrooms, sports fields and rehabilitation wards for students who suffered physical injuries during the earthquake.
